The “Normal” Barbie
Have you ever played with Barbie dolls? If so, you may remember how unrealistically thin and tall the older versions looked, with body proportions very few women actually have, unless you are a model. Recently, a new type of “realistic” Barbie has been invented.
Lammily, as she is called, is modeled after an “average” 19 year old. For one thing, she is a lot shorter than the regular body. Her feet are flat instead of made for high heels. Her posture is more natural.
While I’m really excited to see a more realistic representation of female dolls coming out, I’m still concerned about the overall body image projected by playing with these toys. One question that I have: Why is it based on ONE body of an “average” woman. Why not make representations of multiple women with different body shapes and sizes? There is not just “one” type of woman, and who actually defines “average?”
Hopefully more models representing a variety of ethnicities, body shapes, and sizes come out soon.

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
We had a very successful supply drive for #suitcaseclinic yesterday, if I do say so myself :). It was inspiring and heartwarming to see how many people were willing to donate much needed supplies bought from Walgreens such as soap, razors, and vitamins. These donations will directly go to the hands of homeless/low-income youth, women, and men in the Bay Area. Working at the supply drive helped me learn that 1) people really do have generous souls 2) remember to appreciate the little things in your life, like fresh underwear and floss, because there are people who aren’t fortunate enough to have even the most basic of necessities. Come out to support future Suitcase Clinic supply drives, held in front of Walgreens at 2801 Adeline St. on Saturday (Near Berkeley Bowl). If you would like to drop off donations at one of our three clinic locations or want to learn more about our organization, check out suitcaseclinic.org! ❤️👍 #supplydrive #cal #volunteer #outreach #berkeley #walgreens (at Walgreens)
